It was very early in the morning in the hospital where Lizzy's mother was hospitalized for brain cancer and Lizzy's boss called in as his secretary to inform her about some important guests who will be visiting the office so she could do whatever necessary in order to make them feel at comfortable and welcomed. He went on to say that as he won't be around, he trusts her to deliver although it's the first time he was going to be absent because it was urgent.

Lizzy assured him everything will be perfectly taken care of. Lizzy had to leave for the office, dressed the best she could and it wasn't up to 10 minutes she walked in, the guests arrived too. Lizzy was literally shaking inside, then she welcomed them with a smile. They complimented Lizzy's classy dress and make-up too and she thanked them politely. Then they went down to business, just few minutes into business talk, the guests diverted and offered Lizzy a sum of #2,000,000[Naira] to get a document that was supposed to be in the custody of the boss alone as it's the life of the company.

At first Lizzy rejected but the guests used words like "you won't even have to work here anymore. You'll have enough to take good care of yourself and your family" and you know the devil; Lizzy remembered her mum in the hospital that needed treatment but little did she know that her LOYALTY and INTEGRITY was being put to test. Immediately Lizzy accepted the offer they ended the meeting and left. To be continued.....

In this context, I'll define "thorns" as things that are not necessarily seen but eats up whatever good that comes your way. It could be character, it could be your core values. It could even look like a blessing but once it involves hurting another person just to feel good or look good, it's not worth it.

Are you faithful? Have you decided to be honest? Will you resolve to show kindness to the next person irrespective of how you feel? Yours might not be an offer of #2,000,000, it could be someone's trust in the line, someone's emotions and feelings. Don't let thorns (greed,pride, incompetence, disloyalty etc..) ruin your life. We as young people ought to start now to make good morals our values to safeguard our future.
