The Paradox Of Balance

The Paradox Of Balance
Apr 5th 2024 by Ị̀fèdị̀

As we grow in knowledge and experience, we gain a level of understanding progressively, and for wise people, there's this level of compassion that's added to the general view of life. We find out that there are different colors in social/human analysis, these include white, black and Grey.

Through research and keen observation it can be said that every human being has the natural proclivity for approval or to be accepted, it's ubiquitous, though it's more pronounced in some than in others. This crave for acceptance is the driver for many behavioral patterns littered around today; our friendships, relationships, political alignments etc., are by-products of this reality.

However, there's a bug in the societal system that we all seem to ignore, it seems minute but it's seeping into the configurations of established foundations and is gradually being incorporated into the construction of new ones; let's call it "the crave to sound/appear balanced".

The context of balance here is where one is wise enough to consider differing opinions & positions whilst addressing issues that might appear controversial and coming to a conclusion based on perceived thoughtfulness. In other words, being a good judge; a good thing by the way, a mark of wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. However, the obsession to always appear contrarian and "reasonable" as mostly seen in our social interactions on and off the internet is robbing the society of certain elements of truth, we have people obsessed with preserving the perception of themselves that has been created than the reality they know. Therefore instead of agreeing that 2+2 =4, we pontificate and analyze all angles, trying so hard to push the analogy that the mathematical addition of 2 and 2 can also be 22. A fool's errand.

The proliferation of the definition of what is "true" or better still "truth" was our first step into the slippery slope of failure as a people. So everyone defines their "truth" and wants to live by it. Meanwhile as much as it's true that one has the right to stretch their hands how they dim fit, it is also true that the next person standing by the side also has the right to protect their eyes from being poked.

Our generation makes mountains out of mole-hills, stretch truths beyond its boundaries, live in echo chambers and mouth-off on buzzwords as we dance around established facts and truths. We allow opinions trump facts and argue endlessly on issues that reading just one book would easily solve. One would think that an unlimited access to information, as is the case today, would result in more wise & thoughtful beings, however we're witnessing a zombie-like pandemic where crowd-mentality is the trend.

Truly, life is not just in black and white, grey exists too; the existence of the later doesn't cancel out or obliterate the former. We must be objective in our analysis of events, human relationships etc. but we can't sacrifice truth only to exalt subjective facts.

Uniformity is not always a sign of progress, it's good to know the truth, better to speak it and even best to stand by it.

Love & Light, always!
